The 2020 New Hanover Regional Medical Center Wilmington Marathon Madness is a MUST DO spring 2020 event!  We are well on our way to an amazing production for you to enjoy on the Cape Fear Coast from Ocean to Riverfront!

Our first price increase is coming up on July 20th.  It is never too early to commit and SAVE $$, after all, we have deferral options just in case.

WHY IS THIS COURSE SO UNIQUE?

Since the first of the year, our staff has worked many hours since the first of the year planning for a nationally recognized course.  This course is a journey for runners to run from two unique settings, Pristine Wrightsville Beach to Historic Downtown, in one destination, WILMINGOTN, NC!  Come explore North Carolina’s most accessible coastal destination flowing with energy and creativity.

2020 COURSE DESCRIPTION

The new 2020 course will start at Johnny Mercer Pier overlooking the Atlantic Ocean at sunrise. The half, full and relay will take off and head west toward downtown Wilmington. The first 5 miles will be on flat main roads. Runners will have 1 entire lane and the shoulder. Spectators can watch along this portion and can head downtown for the finish. Roads will be open for traffic at all times with a few detours. Once the runners hit mile 6.5, they will turn onto US 74 and head downtown. This will be a quiet portion of the event, as spectators will not be allowed here, but we will have aid station, signage, and music. By mile 9, US 74 raises up over the marsh land of Wilmington and runners will be elevated over land for 1.5 miles until the half splits from the full. The half marathon runs through Historic Downtown Wilmington to the River Front finish.

The full marathon will continue over the Isabelle Holmes Bridge, and then have two climbs, one over the Battleship bridge and the biggest climb at the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge between miles 13 and 13.5. From there, the rest of the course is mostly flat as the full marathon travels around Greenfield Lake trail as an out and back. The finish is on the River Front in beautiful Historic Downtown Wilmington in front of the federal courthouse on Water Street.
